Hanabi 花火
Hanabi (花火) is the Japanese name for fireworks. Fireworks were originally used to ward off evil spirits and have now become an important part of Japanese summer festivals. July and August are the most popular times to see fireworks shows that draw hundreds of thousands of spectators. The streets are lined with food vendors and game stalls and festival-goers are often dressed in summer yukata. The kanji characters that make up “hanabi” mean “flower” (花) and “fire” (火).
