Uchiwa (うちわ) is another type of Japanese fan that is traditionally made from a single piece of bamboo and does not fold or collapse. The frame of the uchiwa is usually covered in paper in various Japanese motifs, but modern uchiwa are often used by companies as advertising and given away for promotions in summer. These cheaper, mass-produced fans generally use plastic frames instead.
