Taiko 太鼓
Taiko (太鼓), or wadaiko (和太鼓) as they’re called in Japan, refers to Japanese percussion instruments. Taiko drums have been used in Japan as early as the 6th century and thought to have been introduced by Korean and Chinese influence. In feudal Japan, drums were used in battle to motivate warriors and set a marching pace. The taiko depicted is referred to as an o-daiko (大太鼓), the largest drum in a performance, and features a tomoe symbol on the drum head.
