Kondo Marie 近藤麻理恵
Organising consultant and author

片づけコンサルタント、作家 (1984年10月9日– )

彼女の「近藤麻理恵」という片付け方法で、アメリカの中古品販売店に寄付された品物が急激に増加しました。

Kondo Marie became interested in home organisation in childhood and always volunteered at school to tidy her classrooms. During her time in university, she decided to devote her life to de-cluttering and started her consultancy business at age 19.

Although there are many people in Japan well known for teaching organisational tips and tricks, Kondo broke out of Japan and tapped into the Western market with an English translation of her book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” and she quickly became a household name.

In cluttered, consumer-driven America, she has been especially successful. The KonMari effect—the name of her method for keeping only items in your house that spark joy—has even caused a surge in the number of items donated to thrift stores. Her methods have resonated with people and are helping many families question the necessity of an overabundance of ‘stuff.’

In April 2016, US TIME magazine listed Kondo on its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Most recently, Kondo has starred in the Netflix TV series “Tidying Up” which has been nominated for two Emmys.

What is a riso print?

These prints use risograph technology, a method of printing developed in Japan in the mid-1980s. It can be described as a mix between screenprinting and photocopying. The risograph process produces prints with extremely vibrant, crisp inks, and sometimes these inks overlap during the printing process to create interesting and unique details. These soy-based inks also have a lower environmental impact.
