Teru Teru Bozu てるてる坊主
Teru teru bozu (てるてる坊主) is the name of a doll made of white cloth or paper and hung outside of a window by a string, and is believed to have the power to bring good weather or stop rain. Teru teru bozu became popular in the Edo period, when children would make them as a wish for sunny weather the following day. Teru teru bozu can be roughly translated as “shine shine monk.”
