Noren 暖簾
Noren (暖簾) are Japanese room dividers made of fabric and hung in doorways, windows, or on walls, with vertical slits to allow for easy passage. Noren hung outside restaurants and shops display the name or logo and provide protection from wind, dust, and sun. Noren with the hiragana character yu “ゆ” mark a bath house, in red for women, and in blue for men. The ゆ corresponds with the kanji 湯, which means “hot water.”
