Temari 手まり
Temari (手まり) is a handcrafted ball made from intricate layers of thread, first introduced to Japan from China in the 7th century. Temari means “hand ball” and were originally used as toys, but eventually became items of folk art and are highly cherished gifts. They’re sometimes referred to as "mother’s love balls," as traditionally mothers would create them for their children, with wishes written on notes of paper hidden inside.
